Madame de Pompadour of 17th Century France made it popular among the ladies, but as time passed, men’s interest grew in this style. By the 1950’s, with iconic rebels like Elvis Presley and James Dean sporting this look, the Pompadour became a symbol of rebellion and gained even more popularity among men.
